IRS slaps $500k tax lien on Christie Brinkley's estate

Having a tax lien placed on your property is not only embarrassing but a lien can also ruin real estate deals and compromise lines of credit based on the property. The IRS routinely places levies and liens on taxpayers and the IRS often makes mistakes in doing so. Unfortunately the burden is on the property owner to file a wrongful levy claim to prove that a tax lien or levy is invalid. An experienced Irvine wrongful levy claims attorney can help California taxpayers properly file wrongful levy claims and help repair some of the damage that the IRS has done.

One of the most recent victims of an IRS tax lien is supermodel Christie Brinkley. The model and sometimes-actress is worth an estimated $80 million and is best known for her three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition covers and her marriage to Billy Joel.

"I regret not paying more attention to my accounting, but I have been, and remain focused on my whole family as both my parents navigate serious health issues," the 57-year-old actress said of the lien placed on her $30 million estate.

"I discovered the tax lien was the result of an error. My taxes will be paid in full by Wednesday, December 7th and I expect the tax lien to be released immediately thereafter," Brinkley said.

Many news outlets are reporting that the model is not in financial trouble and that the tax lien is attributable to an innocent oversight. These types of errors are common among busy professionals who have others look after their financial affairs. Tax liens are also commonly caused by tax debt arising from inadequate holding.
